Fort Sam Houston's Military Campground at Canyon Lake

Took a chance and drove up this afternoon to Ft Sam's Military Campground at Canyon Lake. Being's that it is Mother's Day I knew I was taking a risk, but figured if it was full I had Randolph's and one other close by. Just so happened that I got the last site #3. I brought along Whitey, my cat, for her first trip in the RV. She actually did better than I expected. She has found a spot under the bed that she likes to lay (hide) in. Only problem that I have encountered, so far, was getting on the internet. They asked for the network code; however, when I called the office they said there was no code. Well, I took another chance and typed in Guest and it worked just fine. Guess I'll have to inform them of what they have and that they should also add it onto their paperwork. The lake is down so much from the drought that the beach is closed--bummer. May end up just renting something tomorrow in order to get on the water. More later...

Down and Out

Guess I was worn out and it all caught up with me. Started with a sore throat last Sat and then the vomiting and respiratory issues. All the symptoms of Swine flu. Called for a doctor's appointment on Mon, but couldn't get in till Tuesday. Been on an antibiotic and bunch of other meds since then. Everytime I think I'm getting better it seems to flair up again. I'll be masking to take Mom for a test next Tuesday as I can't dare infect her.

WalMart Rving and 5K in Fredericksburg TX

Went up to Fredericksburg TX on 24 Apr in order to participate in the Texas Wildflower 5K the next day. Went the backroad out of Blanco (will add road # later) and about two miles on your left is a small dam--great fishing and swimming site (had run across it before). Further out on your left is a llama ranch. I'll post pics of llamas from previous trip later. I ended up stopping at WalMart to see if it would be okay to park there and they said yes. I then went on into town and had a great weiner schneitzel at Auslander's. Stopped by McDonald's on the way back and picked up a couple of movies, thus I got to check out that part of my RV and it worked great--still haven't tried out the TV. Got up the next morning and headed back into town and did the 5K. One of the guys from my previous job was there with his family. Stopped by the Wildseed Company and had some samples and wine. Picked up a hummingbird extension chain for the ceiling fan for Mom. I know you won't believe this since I've lived in San Antonio since Jun of 1965, but I stopped by Luckenbach for the first time. It is a really quaint place. Did some cutting through on backroads, so I missed the llama ranch, but did stop at the waterhole and dangled my feet in the water. It sure felt great as my feet were still burning from the walk. Still a little too cool to go swimming. Fixed some eggs on the stove in the RV--still don't like using propane, but I guess I'll get used to it. Took a shower and headed on back to San Antonio to attend the Celebration of Life of one of my friends mother. Also, got to see some friends who had come in from UT--it had been a long time since I saw them, so it was a great visit.

Inks Lake State Park

On 10 Apr, I finally got to escape (though for just a night). I went up to Inks Lake State Park, which is in the Hill Country by Burnet TX. I had wanted to stay longer, but they only had the one night open, plus I need to get back to Mom. I will be adding some pics as soon as I find the adapter. Did not get to try out my shower, as I found out they failed to add in the shower hose, so I could hook-up to water. I did use the bathhouse, which was nice, clean and warm. Took a hike and while walking, close to the water, I heard a bunch of water movement, but I couldn't see anything. Initially thought maybe it was an otter, but later saw some big fish. I found out later that they were knocking the eggs loose. Maybe you can figure out the fish type when I post the pics. Glad I got in the walk now as it would be quite hot to do it later in the year. It was an out and back hike, but I did some of the back part via the road as I didn't want to climb up and down any more boulders. There were some other folks close by and they had to come look at my RV and they were quite impressed. They invited me to have some drinks and use their grill, but I'm not into drinking and needed to practice with the grill. Stopped by the RV dealer on the way back and got my silverware drawer (another missing item) and told them about the water hose. They said they were out and that I could just buy one. That didn't set too well with me since I feel that since I paid over $75,000 for it that I should get everything coming. I did end up picking up a hose; however, I will still get the one from them since I've read about some camp sites that need the additional hose length.
